Lately celebrities have been coming out as epileptics or at least admitting to having seizures, which helps to raise epilepsy awareness across the country. One celeb who was admitted to the hospital for seizures was Kelley Osbourne, reality television star and daughter of famed heavy metal rocker Ozzy Osbourne. Most recently, rapper Lil Wayne also collapsed after having multiple seizures that landed him in the hospital. Since then, Wayne has admitted to being an epileptic.
Wayne’s admission of his condition occurred during a phone interview with Los Angeles radio station Power 106.
“The bad news is I’m an epileptic, I’m prone to seizures,” he said during the interview. “Like, this isn’t my first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh seizure. I’ve had a bunch of seizures, y’all just never hear about them. But this time it got real bad ’cause I had three of them in a row and on the third one, my heart rate went down to like 30 percent. Basically, I could’ve died, so that is why it was so serious. But the reason being for the seizures is just plain stress, no rest, overworking myself.”
Wayne also admitted that he suffers from seizures on a regular basis and has experienced personnel on hand to help him deal with them.
“They already know how to handle it,” he said. “Certain times I don’t even go to the hospital, but this time, it was real bad because, like I said, it was three in a row, and I’ve never had three back-to-back like that.”
Without even trying to, Wayne may be helping to raise awareness in the condition, which is desperately needed to help researchers get the funding they need to help them in developing new drugs and warnings systems for epileptics. Epilepsy is treated with various anti-seizure medications, one of which is Topamax. Topamax has been linked to serious side effects, including birth defects in babies whose mothers take the drugs while pregnant. Children may be born with birth defects such as PPHN, spina bifida, neural tube defects, oral clefts and heart, lung and brain defects after exposure to Topamax in-utero.
If your baby was born with birth defects after in-utero exposure to Topamax, contact attorney Greg Jones today for a free consultation. I am experienced at fighting Topamax lawsuits and may be able to help you recover money for your child’s injuries.
