With atrial fibrillation (AF) being a more common condition affecting millions of people worldwide, many researchers are looking to find alternative treatments to the current batch of prescription medications that can be just as dangerous as AF. One such study may have done just that: Researchers have found that yoga and acupressure may help AF patients.
“One of the overall aims of treatment for AF is lowering heart rate because high and irregular heart rates can lead to emboli (blood clots) forming and result in stroke,” said Professor Ozlem Ceyhan, a nurse trainer from Erciyes University, Kayseri, Turkey. “In these studies both acupressure and yoga are reducing heart rate, which should have a really beneficial effect. Furthermore, both approaches have the advantage of being easy to administer and cost-effective, with no serious side effects.”
During one study, Maria Nilsson, a nurse from Danderyd Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden analyzed data collected from 80 patients that had paroxysmal AF, which is said to affect as many as 25 to 62 percent of all AF cases.
“We chose to use medical yoga, which is a form of yoga involving deep breathing, light movements, meditation and relaxation. The advantage here is that the movements are easy to learn and can be performed while sitting in a chair,” said Nilsson.
Study results showed that the yoga group experienced a significant drop in their systolic blood pressure and a drop in their heart rate. More information about the study results can be found here. These study results, coupled with other results, prove that AF can be safer to treat than by just giving patients potentially dangerous drugs like Multaq. Multaq is made by Sanofi-Aventis and has been linked to serious side effects including a worsening of the heart condition, liver failure and lung toxicity. It is for this reason that the FDA has recommended that doctors only prescribe Multaq if all other medications fail to work.
If you or a loved one has suffered from liver failure or a worsening heart condition after being treated with Multaq, contact the attorneys at Greg Jones today for a free consultation. I am experienced at fighting Multaq lawsuits and may be able to help you recover money for your injuries.
